The Human Values 4 Kids Foundation (HV4K) is a proud U.S.-based partner of Gift of Life Fiji / Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children's Hospital Fiji.  As such, we are committing a portion of all profits from the sale of our values-based media and products to support free heart surgeries and associated hospital operational costs for children born with congenital heart disease in the Fiji Islands and surrounding South Pacific islands.

Further, we are also serving as a platform for U.S.-based donors to participate financially in this noble program by giving tax-deductible donations to support these free heart surgeries and associated hospital operational costs with no HV4K administration fees being charged.  This means that your donation will be maximized to save the lives of children in the Fiji Islands and surrounding South Pacific islands.

The Need

Approximately 200 children are born in Fiji and approximately 2,500 children are born in the Pacific every year with congenital heart disease.  There are no super-specialty hospitals in Fiji or the surrounding South Pacific islands where pediatric cardiac surgeries can be performed.  Further, most families cannot afford to send their children to countries like Australia or New Zealand, where they can get these surgeries.  Therefore, most of these children are left to die.

What is Gift of Life Fiji / Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children's Hospital Fiji?

Gift of Life Fiji is a project sponsored by the Sai Prema Foundation of Fiji, which is a non-government organization (NGO) and registered charitable organization in the Fiji Islands.  The purpose of this project is to provide free, life-saving heart surgeries for underprivileged children in the Fiji Islands and surrounding South Pacific islands.  There are currently no pediatric cardiac services available in the region and overseas treatment is not affordable for most families at a cost of approximately $100,000 Fiji dollars (FJD) or approximately $45,000 USD per surgery.

To date, 277 children have received successful life-saving heart surgeries and 16,138 children have been given free heart screening!

The 'heart' of the Gift of Life project is the Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Children's Hospital of Fiji, which is the South Pacific's first super specialty, state-of-the-art children's hospital, offering all surgeries and treatment completely free of cost.  The $25 million hospital was inaugurated on April 27, 2022, and stands as the largest project ever undertaken by an NGO in Fiji's history!

Who Performs Surgeries at the Hospital?

There are no trained pediatric cardiac surgeons in the Fiji Islands or surrounding South Pacific islands, so volunteer international surgery teams from the United States, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Oman, Singapore, and India have been performing the surgeries at the children's hospital free of cost as part of 'medical missions.'  The teams are made up of surgeons, doctors, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other medical professionals and range between 20-40 people per mission.

The Sai Prema Foundation is also committed to providing free training abroad to Fijians in order to build local capacity with a vision of one day transforming the hospital into one which is run with local Fijian surgeons, doctors, and medical personnel.
